Gyeongnam Province to Distribute Over 280 Information and Communication Assistive Devices to People with Disabilities This Year
80% Support for Product Prices, 90% for Basic Livelihood Security Recipients and Lower-Income Groups
Apply through City/County IT Departments and Assistive Device Websites by June 17
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongnam Province will distribute information and communication assistive devices such as reading magnifiers and voice amplifiers to people with disabilities in the province.
Last year, 215 units were distributed, and this year, the budget has been increased about twofold compared to last year, with a total project cost of approximately 412 million KRW to provide about 280 information and communication assistive devices.
Recipients will receive 80% support for the product price, and 90% support for basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups.
By type of disability, 67 types including reading magnifiers and braille information terminals for the visually impaired, 21 types including special mice and touch monitors for physical and brain lesion disabilities, and 33 types including language training software and voice amplifiers for hearing and speech disabilities will be distributed.
People with disabilities who have their resident registration address in Gyeongnam Province can apply from May 2 to June 17 at the information technology department of the city or county office or on the assistive device website.
After screening and evaluation, the final recipients will be selected on July 15, and the assistive devices will be finally distributed by September.
Mr. Kwon, a visually impaired beneficiary of last year’s distribution project, said, “I was glad to receive the braille device that I had needed for a long time.”
Mr. Kim, a hearing-impaired person, said, “I was very pleased to receive assistive devices that help hearing-impaired people,” adding, “The reduced personal burden is a great help.”
