Okuseok Gijang County Governor, Firmly Opposes Approval of Ilgwang Samdeok District Apartment Complex... Position Unchanged
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Oh Gyu-seok, the mayor of Gijang-gun, once again firmly emphasized his unwavering stance of resolute opposition to the ‘Approval of the Ilgwang Samdeok District Housing Construction Project Plan.’
Gijang-gun plans to promptly convey the mayor’s final opinion to Busan City, requesting immediate rejection of the opinion consultation request regarding Busan City’s application for approval of the Samdeok District housing construction project plan.
Mayor Oh stated that he absolutely cannot accept the approval decisions made at the Busan City Traffic Impact Assessment Review held on October 29 last year and the joint housing project review meeting held on November 30 last year.
He is currently exerting all efforts to block the Samdeok District housing construction project in the ongoing housing construction project plan approval process and is strongly maintaining his resolute opposition stance.
Oh Gyu-seok, mayor of Gijang-gun, said, “We absolutely cannot accept the Ilgwang Samdeok District housing construction project plan, which exacerbates the suffering and sacrifice of residents in the Ilgwang New Town area due to traffic chaos and sewage problems,” adding, “If Busan City approves the Samdeok District housing construction project plan, Mayor Park Hyung-joon should apologize to the 176,000 residents of Gijang-gun.”
Yurim Comprehensive Construction is planning to build a large-scale apartment complex of about 1,500 households in the Samdeok District adjacent to Ilgwang New Town by changing the existing Type 1 General Residential Area to Type 2 General Residential Area and revising the district unit plan to include some natural green areas.
In March last year, Yurim Comprehensive Construction submitted the Samdeok District housing construction project plan to Busan City.
Although the Busan City Traffic Impact Assessment Review Committee decided to re-examine twice on August 6 and October 1 last year, the third traffic impact assessment review held on October 29 last year approved the plan despite Gijang-gun’s resolute opposition.
Gijang-gun’s position is that the supplementary traffic impact assessment reports submitted by the project operator three times do not sufficiently provide traffic improvement measures that can alleviate the difficulties and concerns of residents in the Ilgwang New Town area, and therefore, the project is absolutely unacceptable.
From the initial review, the county has strongly demanded the opening of a bypass road, which has not been reflected at all, and the project operator plans the entrance and exit within Ilgwang New Town without obtaining consent from nearby large apartment complexes.

Gijang-gun opposes this, stating that it could cause large-scale collective civil complaints and that Busan City’s approval of the traffic impact assessment review without any fundamental improvement measures is a blatant disregard for the suffering of Ilgwang-eup residents.
