Jeju Air 'Green Star' Ranked No.1 in LCC Category for 4 Consecutive Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Jeju Air announced on the 27th that it has been selected as the No. 1 low-cost carrier in the ‘Green Star’ certification by the Korea Management Registrar (KMR) for four consecutive years.
The ‘Green Star’ certification is an eco-friendly certification system where KMR selects products and services based on evaluations including consumer participation and research, with consumers directly assessing awareness of eco-friendly products.
Since 2017, Jeju Air has been conducting the ‘Save the Polar Bears Project’ to contribute to reducing greenhouse gases and improving fuel efficiency through carbon reduction flights during aircraft operations. The airline also continues efforts to protect the environment by replacing regular straws, paper cups, and plastic used inside aircraft with eco-friendly products.
Jeju Air also continues campaigns to encourage customer interest and participation in environmental conservation in Jeju. Since last year, it has been running the ‘Green Travel Campaign’ to promote eco-friendly travel to tourists in order to create a cleaner Jeju. The airline is also engaged in promotional activities for Jeju environmental conservation through planned products featuring ‘Jeco,’ Jeju Air’s eco-friendly travel campaign character inspired by the internationally protected species ‘Jeju Southern Bottlenose Dolphin’ inhabiting the coastal waters of Jeju.
Meanwhile, to celebrate winning the ‘Green Star’ eco-friendly product award in the low-cost airline category for four consecutive years, Jeju Air conducted a coastal cleanup activity on the morning of the 27th in Aewol-eup, Jeju City.
Twelve Jeju Air customers selected by lottery, Kim Eebae, CEO of Jeju Air, and Jeju Air cabin crew participated in the coastal cleanup activity along the coastal road of Aewol-eup, Jeju City, to protect the Jeju sea environment. The volunteer group Eco-Mer, composed of Jeju Air cabin crew, continuously carries out environmental cleanup activities along the Jeju coast.
