"CJ CheilJedang, First Success of In-house Venture Program, Launches Food Upcycle Brand 'Excycle'"
Two Types of 'Excycle Crispy Chips' Food Upcycling Products Launched Through Food InnoVenture 'InnoBaek'
Utilizing Food Byproducts Like Broken Rice and Soybean Pulp and Using Recycled Packaging Materials
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] CJ CheilJedang announced on the 26th that it has launched 'Excycle,' a specialized brand for the 'Food Upcycling' business discovered through its in-house food venture program 'InnoBack,' and introduced two types of snack products called 'Excycle Crispy Chips.'
Excycle is a term combining 'Exciting' and 'Food Upcycle,' embodying the vision of 'creating a joyful upcycle culture.' The brand plans to get closer to the younger generation who seek value consumption and want to enjoy food healthily.
Excycle Crispy Chips are high-protein nutritious snacks containing 60% broken rice pieces and soybean pulp. One bag contains the amount of protein equivalent to one egg and dietary fiber equivalent to two bananas, available in two flavors: mild original and spicy hot spicy. Notably, the packaging is eco-friendly, made by recycling used PET bottles, enhancing its environmental value.
The product will meet consumers through a crowdfunding campaign on Wadiz until the 9th of next month, and plans to officially enter distribution channels in the second half of this year to expand sales outlets. In July, a pop-up store will open to get even closer to consumers. To prepare for increased production, investments are underway, including equipping byproduct food materialization and HACCP infrastructure facilities at the Jincheon Blossom Campus and Jincheon factory.
Food upcycling is CJ CheilJedang's first in-house venture project in the food sector, which was approved for commercialization in October last year and has since been separated into an independent internal company operated by six employees.
