The Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, together with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, held the ‘National Chamber of Commerce Chairpersons Meeting’ on the 22nd.
Before the Chamber of Commerce Chairpersons Meeting, the ‘2030 Busan World Expo Hosting Resolution Rally’ was also held to spread enthusiasm for hosting the Busan World Expo.
The meeting was attended by Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Choi Tae-won, Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Jang In-hwa, nationwide Chamber chairpersons, representatives of the top 10 conglomerates including Samsung Electronics President Lee In-yong, Hyundai Motor President Gong Young-woon, SK SV Chairman Lee Hyung-hee, LG President Ha Beom-jong, Lotte Holdings Vice Chairman Lee Dong-woo, POSCO President Jeong Tak, as well as about 80 business leaders including Nexen Group Chairman Kang Byung-jung and Sewoon Steel Chairman Shin Jeong-taek.
From the National Assembly and the Transition Committee, Lee Heon-seung, head of the Busan Expo TF team of the Transition Committee, Seo Byung-soo, chairman of the National Assembly Expo Hosting Special Committee, Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon, and Kim Young-joo, chairman of the Busan World Expo Hosting Committee, attended.
The president-elect also visited the site to encourage the business community. This was the first time the president-elect met with the nationwide Chamber chairpersons and major domestic conglomerate representatives.
By attending the 2030 Busan World Expo hosting resolution event held in Busan together with the president-elect and representatives of the top 10 conglomerates, the new government demonstrated its commitment to hosting the Expo.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomed the event, saying, “It is expected to be an opportunity for large corporations, which had been evaluated as passive in hosting activities so far, to work as one team with the government and devote themselves wholeheartedly.”
The resolution rally proceeded in the order of opening remarks by Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Choi Tae-won, congratulatory speeches by Kim Young-joo, chairman of the hosting committee, and Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon, followed by a report on economic community hosting support activities by Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Jang In-hwa.
Then, the president-elect had a time to encourage and support the hosting of the 2030 Busan World Expo.
President-elect Yoon and the nationwide business community strengthened their resolve by participating together in a hosting prayer ceremony, sending paper airplanes carrying their wishes for the Expo hosting.
President-elect Yoon said, “The 2030 Busan World Expo will raise the national prestige and serve as an opportunity to grow domestic companies into global enterprises, driving the leap forward of the national economy.”
He added, “To ensure successful hosting, after the new government’s launch, we will support the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Busan City to respond with full force, and concentrate the government’s diplomatic capabilities. Companies should also actively assist through economic diplomacy. I hope the government and companies will join hands to produce excellent results, and I will stand at the forefront myself.”
Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Choi Tae-won said, “The business community will do its best as a public-private cooperation partner for the 2030 Busan World Expo hosting by actively utilizing overseas marketing channels, targeting countries such as those in Africa where voting decisions have not yet been made.”
