The Supreme Court announced on the 22nd that Chief Justice Kim Myeong-su has nominated Justice No Tae-ak as a member of the National Election Commission. This is a follow-up personnel move following the recent resignation announcement by Chairperson No Jeong-hee.
The Supreme Court explained the reason for the nomination, stating, "Nominee No Tae-ak is a distinguished legal expert with extensive judicial experience and meticulous legal theory, possessing outstanding capabilities. He is widely respected both inside and outside the court for his gentle personality, bold drive, excellent communication skills, and inclusiveness."
It added, "Nominee No has carried out rational and fair judicial duties based on law and principles. Having experience as the Chairperson and member of the Election Commission, he is well-qualified to perform the duties of a member of the National Election Commission."
Nominee No is expected to assume the position of Chairperson of the National Election Commission after undergoing a parliamentary confirmation hearing. The National Election Commission consists of nine members: three appointed by the President, three elected by the National Assembly, and three nominated by the Chief Justice. Traditionally, the Chairperson of the National Election Commission has been a Justice serving as a commissioner. Chief Justice Kim plans to soon request a parliamentary confirmation hearing for nominee No.

Nominee No is from Changnyeong, Gyeongnam, graduated from Hanyang University School of Law, and completed the 16th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute. Starting in 1990 at the Suwon District Court Seongnam Branch, he served in judicial roles at the Daegu District Court, Seoul High Court, and Daejeon District Court. He also served as a judicial research judge at the Supreme Court and as a professor at the Judicial Research and Training Institute. Since 2020, he has been serving as a Justice of the Supreme Court.
