President Moon's Congratulatory Message on 'Wetlands Day' Event: "Government Will Strive to Preserve Wetlands"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in sent a congratulatory message on the 22nd to the 'World Wetlands Day' event held at the Namdo Boseong and Beolgyo mudflats, stating, "We will strive to preserve them so that nature and we can open a sustainable future together."
On the same day, President Moon stated through social networking services (SNS), "The Boseong and Beolgyo mudflats are a shared heritage of humanity that local residents have protected despite many inconveniences."
President Moon emphasized, "Last year, the 'Korean Mudflats' were joyfully registered as a World Natural Heritage site," adding, "Wetlands harbor and nurture countless lives and breathe with us. They have lived alongside us in the form of swamps, ponds, and mudflats."
He mentioned that wetlands host about 1,000 species of marine life and absorb 490,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually, holding an annual value of 18 trillion won, calling them "ecological resources that prevent natural disasters and provide fishery resources."
