'Resident Priority Parking Spaces Shared'... Bucheon City Expands Operation Across All Areas
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province will expand the resident-priority parking space sharing service, which is currently being piloted in the Wonmi-dong, Samjeong-dong, and Wonjong-dong areas, to cover a total of 9,208 spaces throughout the city starting from the 22nd.
This service, promoted as part of the Smart City Challenge project, aims to increase utilization efficiency by sharing resident-priority parking spaces during times when residents are not using them and to resolve parking issues within neighborhoods.
Citizens assigned resident-priority parking spaces (sharers) can register their parking spaces for sharing through the 'Parking Lot' service within the 'Smart City Pass' app. Citizens who need parking spaces (users) can make advance payments via the app and use the spaces.
The usage fee is 300 KRW for the first 30 minutes, with an additional 200 KRW for every 10 minutes thereafter (maximum daily fee of 4,000 KRW). Bucheon citizens can receive a 50% discount through citizen authentication.
To promote the parking sharing service, the city pays sharers 50% of the parking revenue and provides various benefits such as refunding 20% of the payment amount as points to Bucheon citizens who authenticate their usage.
The resident-priority parking space sharing pilot service, first implemented in February, operated in the Smart City Challenge target areas (Wonmi-dong, Samjeong-dong, and Wonjong-dong). Among the citizens assigned a total of 699 resident-priority parking spaces, about 130 are currently sharing their spaces.
