Started in 2008, Art Gifted Education Support Program Operates Again This Year... 2,300 Music and Art Students Trained Over 15 Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government will continue the "Artistic Gifted Education Support Project," which has supported 2,300 artistic prodigies over the past 15 years since its inception in 2008.
On the 22nd, Seoul announced that starting with the entrance ceremonies at Konkuk University and Hanyang University on the 23rd, it will provide professional art education to 250 artistic prodigies throughout this year. Seoul's "Artistic Gifted Education Support Project" was the first initiative of its kind among local governments nationwide, producing 2,300 students in music and fine arts education. Among them, 137 advanced to art schools (middle and high schools for the arts, and universities), and 392 received awards in various domestic competitions and contests.
The Artistic Gifted Education Support Project selects and supports students from households below the median income level who are recognized for their artistic talents through document screening, aptitude tests in their major fields, practical evaluations, and in-depth interviews.
The Konkuk University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation supports students majoring in music from 3rd grade elementary to 1st grade high school. After the entrance ceremony on the 23rd, intensive classes will be conducted for eight months. This year, the curriculum will be enhanced compared to last year, including "major-specific customized concert attendance."
The Sookmyung Women’s University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation focuses on providing art education that helps elementary students who have not yet decided on a major to concretize their individual talents. This year, artistic gifted education will be provided to 50 students. The Hanyang University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation offers education for students in the fine arts field. This year, artistic gifted education will be provided to about 100 students. Hanyang University’s art gifted classes operate on a non-grade system and, in addition to regular classes, will include intensive summer vacation sessions, parent workshops, and exhibition visits and hosting.
