Justice Network "Police, Take Strong Action Against Conservative Groups Opposing Wednesday Demonstrations"
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] The Justice and Memory Foundation (Jeonguiyeon), which has been facing disruptions to its Wednesday demonstrations by conservative groups, filed a complaint on the 8th requesting strong measures against the interference with the Wednesday demonstrations to the National Police Agency, Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, and Jongno Police Station in Seoul.
Jeonguiyeon stated, "The Wednesday demonstrations, which began on January 8, 1992, and have continued for 30 years, have recently been subjected to all kinds of attacks and disruptions by historical denial forces," adding, "They are occupying all locations near Peace Road by filing assembly notifications solely to stop the Wednesday demonstrations and are committing historical fact denial."
As evidence, they cited the urgent relief decision by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK). On January 13, the NHRCK issued an urgent relief decision urging the police to actively recommend the organizers of opposing assemblies to change the time and place so as not to interfere with the Wednesday demonstrations. However, Jeonguiyeon criticized the Jongno Police Station, the competent authority, for not taking proper measures and inquired about punitive actions against false assembly notifications by conservative groups disrupting the Wednesday demonstrations and measures to guarantee the demonstrations.
