"Did You Ignore My Autistic Son?"... Drunken Man in His 40s Assaults Bus Driver Indiscriminately
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Yeeun] A man who assaulted and verbally abused a bus driver in Incheon has been apprehended by the police. The man reportedly attacked the driver after the driver told his son to take a seat.
On the 11th, the Yeonsu Police Station in Incheon announced that they had booked Mr. A (49) without detention on charges of assaulting a driver (under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes) on a city bus in operation.
Mr. A is accused of repeatedly assaulting and verbally abusing Mr. B, a bus driver in his 40s, inside a bus stopped in front of a bus stop in Dongchun-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, around 9 p.m. on the 7th.
At the time, Mr. A, in a heavily intoxicated state, boarded the bus with his wife and his son who has autism. When Mr. A’s son was moving around inside the bus, Mr. B asked him, "Please sit down as there is a risk of an accident."
Suddenly, Mr. A approached the driver's seat and assaulted Mr. B. The bus’s internal CCTV footage clearly captured Mr. A grabbing and shaking Mr. B’s hair while assaulting him. Mr. A’s wife, who was on board, tried to stop him by physically intervening.
After being reported and apprehended by the police, Mr. A reportedly stated during the investigation, "I did it because it seemed like they were ignoring my son who has autism."
Mr. B’s side claimed, "Even at the police substation, Mr. A threatened to slit my throat," and added, "He insulted me by saying that I earn more money by getting hit than by working."
