Mokpo Maritime University Launches Marine Sports Team... 'Unfolding Dreams'
Yacht, Canoe, and Rowing: Total of 12 Athletes in 3 Events
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seung-hyun Jeong] Mokpo National Maritime University held a team inauguration ceremony and began full-scale training to establish itself as a mecca for marine leisure sports.
The marine sports team inauguration ceremony held on the 8th at the Mokpo National Maritime University CEO Lecture Room was attended by Han Won-hee, President of Mokpo National Maritime University; Song Jin-ho, Chairman of Mokpo City Sports Council; Cho Hyun-sik, Chairman of the Korea Canoe Federation; Kim Byung-chun, Chairman of the Jeonnam Canoe Federation; Choi Seong, General Secretary of the Mokpo National Maritime University Alumni Association; as well as marine sports officials and athletes.
Mokpo National Maritime University established the marine sports team to enhance its image as a marine-specialized university, promote external publicity, nurture outstanding athletes, and expand the base of recreational sports to develop marine sports.
The newly formed team consists of a total of 12 athletes across three disciplines: ▲Rowing - 2 members (3rd-year students Oh Yoon-jae and Heo Myeong-heon from the Department of Marine Construction Engineering), ▲Canoe - 9 members (3rd-year students Kim Kyung-min and Jang Won-woo from the Department of Marine Construction Engineering; 1st-year students Shin Jin-joo and Kwon Eun-hee from the Department of Marine Construction Engineering; 1st-year students Park Min-ji, Baek Kyung-han, and Jang Hyun-joon from the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering; 1st-year students Park Soo-hyun and Jung Yu-bi from the Department of Marine Computer Engineering), ▲Yacht - 1 member (1st-year student Shin Hyun-bin from the Department of Navigation Information Systems). The university plans to actively support athletes’ activities and related employment opportunities.
On this day, the Korea Canoe Federation congratulated the inauguration of the sports team by donating a four-person kayak worth about 20 million KRW, the Jeonnam Canoe Federation donated a two-person kayak worth about 10 million KRW, and the Mokpo City Canoe Federation contributed a sponsorship fund of 1 million KRW.
