Democratic Party Closes Local Election Candidate Applications... Six Including Song Young-gil, Park Ju-min, and Jeong Bong-ju Apply for Seoul City Nomination
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The Democratic Party of Korea announced that a total of 37 candidates have completed registration to run for metropolitan mayoral positions in the June 1 local elections, following the candidate registration period from the 5th to 7th at 7 p.m.
In Seoul, a total of six candidates registered. △Song Young-gil, former leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, △Park Joo-min, current member of the National Assembly, △Jung Bong-ju, former member of the National Assembly, and △Kim Jin-ae, former member of the National Assembly, all applied for nomination. △Kim Joo-young, a lawyer, and △Kim Song-il, former Vice Governor of Jeollanam-do, also registered as candidates.
For the Gyeonggi Province governor candidacy, △Ahn Min-seok, member of the National Assembly, △Eom Tae-young, former mayor of Suwon, and △Jo Jung-sik, member of the National Assembly, applied for nomination.
In Busan, Daegu, Jeonnam, Incheon, and Chungbuk regions, single nominations were made. In Busan, former acting mayor Byun Sung-wan registered as a candidate, and in Daegu, Seo Jae-heon, former chairman of the Daegu Dong-gu Gap district committee, registered. In Jeonnam, current governor Kim Young-rok is running for re-election, and in Incheon, current mayor Park Nam-chun is seeking a second term. In Chungbuk, former Presidential Secretary No Young-min applied for nomination.
In Gwangju Metropolitan City, a total of four candidates registered. △Lee Yong-seop, current mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, △Kang Ki-jung, former Senior Secretary for Political Affairs to the President, △Kim Hye-kyung, current invited professor at Nambu University, and △Jung Jun-ho, lawyer, all registered as candidates.
In Daejeon, △Heo Tae-jeong, current mayor of Daejeon Metropolitan City, and △Jang Jong-tae, former mayor of Seo-gu, Daejeon, are competing for the candidacy. In Ulsan, △Song Cheol-ho, current mayor of Ulsan Metropolitan City, and △Jang Yoon-ho, chairman of the Environment and Welfare Committee of the Ulsan City Council, are contesting the primary. In Sejong, △Lee Chun-hee, current mayor of Sejong Special Self-Governing City, △Bae Seon-ho, vice chairman of the Sejong City Party, and △Jo Sang-ho, economic vice mayor of Sejong City, have completed candidate registration.
For the Jeonbuk Province governor candidacy, five candidates applied. △Song Ha-jin, current governor of Jeonbuk Province, △Kim Kwan-young, former member of the National Assembly, △Kim Yoon-duk, current member of the National Assembly, △Ahn Ho-young, current member of the National Assembly, and △Yoo Sung-yeop, former member of the National Assembly, all registered as candidates.
In the Gyeongnam region, △Shin Sang-hoon, member of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council, and △Yang Moon-seok, former vice chairman of the Gyeongsangnam-do Party, applied for nomination. In Jeju, △Kim Tae-seok, former chairman of the Jeju Provincial Council, △Moon Dae-rim, former Presidential Secretary for Institutional Improvement, and △Oh Hyung-hoon, current member of the National Assembly, registered their names.
