Suncheon-si Confirmed as Host City for Next Year's Jeonnam Province Health Day Event
Encouragement for Local Healthcare Workers and Expectations for Promotional Impact of the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City announced on the 7th that it has been confirmed as the host city for the 51st Jeollanam-do Health Day commemorative event next year.
Health Day was established as "World Health Day" to commemorate the founding date of the World Health Organization (WHO) (April 7, 1949). In South Korea, April 7 has been designated as "Health Day" since 1973, and since 2014, it has been specified as a legal commemorative day under the National Health Promotion Act.
This year's Jeonnam Health Day ceremony was held on April 7 in Yeosu City under the slogan "Healthy Daily Life, Happiness for All."
Officials from Jeonnam Province and 22 cities and counties, along with related health and medical organizations, gathered to encourage the efforts of health and medical personnel through awards for contributions such as COVID-19 response, and held events including a Health Day commemorative performance.
At the final part of the event, it was confirmed that next year's 51st Jeollanam-do Health Day ceremony will be held in Suncheon City, and Lee Ki-jung, Director of Suncheon City Health Center, received the Health Day flag from Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province.
The city plans to successfully hold both events by creating a linked synergy effect, hosting the Health Day commemorative event in April next year along with the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo.

Lee Ki-jung, Director of Suncheon City Health Center, said, "Even at this moment, the efforts of local health and medical personnel who are responsible for the health and safety of citizens in response to COVID-19 are very great," and added, "Next year's Jeonnam Health Day event will be held in Suncheon, the city of gardens, as a meaningful day to honor the efforts of all health and medical workers and to raise citizens' understanding and interest in health."
