Shinan-gun Selected as the Nation's First 'Peanut Processing Factory' Through Public Contest
Processed products such as stir-fried peanuts, ice cream, and cookies made using Sinan peanuts produced
[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, has been selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' 'Specialty Crop Production and Distribution Modernization Project' and will build a peanut processing plant.
A total project cost of 4 billion KRW (2 billion KRW from the national government, 2 billion KRW from the county) will be invested to establish a 660㎡ peanut processing plant, a 150㎡ cold storage facility, and specialized machinery and equipment by next year.
Sinan peanuts, grown in sea breeze, are known for their savory and mild taste, but until now, they have only been simply packaged and sold as raw peanuts.
This is the nation's first project supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to provide local governments with specialized peanut processing facilities. It plans to showcase processed products such as roasted peanuts, ice cream, cookies, and lattes that highlight the unique savory and mild flavor of Sinan peanuts.
Additionally, a total of 12 billion KRW will be invested in Jaeun, Amtae, Palgeum, and Anjwa Islands, which are connected to the mainland via the Cheonsa Bridge, to create the '1004 Island Station,' a tourism rest area concept, maximizing the ripple effects along with Peanut Land.
