[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] On the 7th, Kim Hak-yong, a member of the People Power Party, announced that he would resign from his position as a nomination management committee member to support Kim Eun-hye, who declared her candidacy for Governor of Gyeonggi Province. Instead, he will serve as the election campaign committee chairman for Kim Eun-hye.
Kim Hak-yong was elected in the Anseong area of Gyeonggi Province in the by-election held alongside last year's presidential election. He is a four-term lawmaker, the longest-serving in the Gyeonggi region.
At a press conference held at the National Assembly on the same day, Kim emphasized that "a fresh figure suitable for the new era must boldly step forward," stating that the right candidate for Governor of Gyeonggi Province is Kim Eun-hye. He said, "Despite being a first-term lawmaker, Kim showed more determination than anyone else in uncovering the Daejang-dong Gate during the last presidential election," adding, "I believe she will become a young and dynamic governor who will change Gyeonggi Province and lead the development of the Republic of Korea as one team with the new government."
