Jeonnam Province Expands Oral Antiviral Treatments to Minimize Severe Cases and Deaths Among COVID-19 High-Risk Groups
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province is expanding the use of oral COVID-19 treatments to minimize severe cases and deaths among high-risk groups.
According to the province on the 7th, a total of 14,096 doses of oral treatments have been allocated, including 12,358 doses of Paxlovid and 1,738 doses of Lagevrio. As of today, 8,928 doses of Paxlovid and 472 doses of Lagevrio have been prescribed.
To ensure rapid prescription of oral treatments at nursing hospitals and facilities, in addition to outpatient prescriptions through designated pharmacies and inpatient prescriptions through treatment supply base hospitals, oral treatments have been pre-supplied to local public health centers to enable immediate inpatient prescriptions.
In cases of group quarantine at nursing hospitals and facilities, employees and caregivers at these medical institutions can receive inpatient prescriptions for oral treatments at the respective medical institutions.
With the expansion of outpatient treatment centers for home care patients, the prescription of oral treatments at local clinics and outpatient centers is being expanded, and outpatient prescriptions for patients hospitalized in hospital-level medical institutions are newly implemented.
Mental hospitals can also provide outpatient prescriptions through designated pharmacies, and in the event of a large-scale outbreak, oral treatments can be received from public health centers and treatment supply base hospitals for inpatient prescriptions.

A Jeonnam Province official stated, “We will notify related medical institutions and designated pharmacies about the plan to expand the use of oral COVID-19 treatments to ensure smooth prescription of these treatments,” adding, “We will strive to minimize severe cases and deaths among high-risk groups.”
