US Department of Defense: Russian Forces Complete Withdrawal from Kyiv and Other Areas in Ukraine
Russia Focuses on Donbas... Western Experts Say "Immediate Redeployment Difficult Due to Low Morale"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] On the 6th (local time), The New York Times reported, citing a senior U.S. Department of Defense official, that Russian forces have withdrawn all troops from Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, and the northern city of Chernihiv.
According to the report, an anonymous senior official stated, "We believe they have all left." However, the official added that the Russian troops who were in these areas are currently resupplying in places such as Belarus, and it is unclear when they will be redeployed to the eastern Donbas region.
The official also said that the Russian forces currently deployed in eastern Ukraine consist of about 30 tactical battalions, with a troop strength of approximately 30,000.
Meanwhile, Russia had previously announced on the 30th of last month that it would reorganize the units deployed in northern Ukraine, including Kyiv, and concentrate them in the eastern Donbas region.
