Gurye-gun Supports Eco-friendly Rice Seed Hot Water Disinfection
Full Effort for Pest and Disease Prevention with Eco-Friendly Rice Seed Hot Water Disinfection
[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yuk Miseok] On the 6th, Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will begin full-scale rice seed disinfection support by installing automatic hot water seed disinfectors at 8 Eup/Myeon Agricultural Counseling Centers to minimize damage from pests and diseases transmitted through rice seeds and to expand eco-friendly agricultural complexes.
The Gurye-gun Agricultural Technology Center has been supporting rice seed disinfection annually for eco-friendly agricultural complexes and general complexes, and plans to support seed disinfection of 63 tons over an area of 2,100 hectares starting from the 7th.
Selected seeds are divided into 5kg portions, soaked in 60°C water for 10 minutes, then taken out and sufficiently cooled in cold water. After undergoing soaking and germination processes, this method effectively prevents various seed-borne diseases such as tall rice disease, rice blast, rice kernel smut, and rice leaf nematode.
A county official stated, “Through on-site support for hot water seed disinfection, we aim to reduce the density of pests and diseases, establish a foundation for high-quality rice production complexes, and reduce labor and management costs associated with seed disinfection. We will continue to actively provide on-site support in the future.”
