US to Sell Patriot Air Defense System to Taiwan
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The United States has approved a weapons sale package worth up to $95 million (approximately 115.8 billion KRW) to Taiwan.
According to major foreign media and Taiwanese press on the 6th, Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the U.S. government officially notified the approval of the sale of the Patriot missile defense system and related equipment on the same day.
This sales package mainly includes professional technical support such as training, planning, deployment, operation, and maintenance of the Patriot air defense system and related equipment. Taiwanese media explained, "Unlike before, it includes dispatching professional personnel to Taiwan to provide direct technical support."
This is the third time the Biden administration has announced a weapons sale to Taiwan, and the second time this year alone.

Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "This shows that the Biden administration places great importance on Taiwan's defense needs." It added, "As the U.S. has regularized arms sales to Taiwan in recent years, Taiwan has been able to procure the necessary equipment for national defense in a timely manner, effectively enhancing its ability to deter threats."
