Gwangju Seo-gu, Recruiting Students for 'Gugak Culture School' Until the 29th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 6th that it is recruiting students for the 78th term of the Gugak Culture School and the After-school Children's Gugak Class at Bitgoeul Gugak Training Center for local residents and children.
The Gugak Culture School, which runs for three months from July 2 to July 29, offers nine courses including Minyo (folk songs), Pansori, Gayageum, Daegeum, Gayageum Byeongchang, Janggu, Gobeop, Haegeum, and Jeongga, divided into beginner and intermediate levels.
After-school children's courses for elementary school students will also offer two courses: Gayageum and Haegeum.
Residents and children who wish to enroll can apply by visiting Seo-gu Bitgoeul Gugak Training Center or by phone by the 29th.
Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis with about 20 students per course, and the tuition fee is 50,000 KRW for three months.
A Seo-gu official said, "The Gugak class will be a valuable time to experience the unique charm and beauty of traditional culture," adding, "We hope that learning traditional music will help relieve the mental and physical fatigue caused by COVID-19 and restore vitality."
Meanwhile, the Gugak Culture School operated by Seo-gu Bitgoeul Gugak Training Center for residents and children has produced more than 22,500 students so far, greatly contributing to the expansion and popularization of Gugak.
