[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Dong-guk] Gyeongsangbuk-do has secured a total project cost of 2.45 billion KRW (1.075 billion KRW in national funds) by being finally selected for three sites (1.95 billion KRW) in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' 'Agricultural Environment Conservation Program' and one site (500 million KRW) in the 'Eco-friendly Compost Production Facility Modernization Support Project.'

The three sites selected for the Agricultural Environment Conservation Program are the Uiseong Jang2-ri, Sangju Namjang Village, and Dureung·Deokgari eco-friendly agricultural districts, each receiving 650 million KRW per village over five years.

In the first year, 50 million KRW will be invested for establishing the project foundation and formulating the implementation plan, and from the second to the fifth year, 150 million KRW annually will be invested for activity execution and performance evaluation, totaling 600 million KRW.

Through this, the agricultural environment will be diagnosed and management plans prepared to support labor and material costs for agricultural environment improvement activities, and various environmental conservation projects such as soil, water use, ecology, and landscape will be promoted.

The Uiseong Jang2-ri village selected for this project will establish the Motdogam system for operating the traditional water irrigation system, a nationally important agricultural heritage, maintain the created ponds (dumbung) to preserve habitats, and expand eco-friendly agriculture through the use of controlled-release fertilizers and green manure crop cultivation.

Sangju Dureung·Deokgari Village, as an eco-friendly agricultural district, plans to induce the expansion of eco-friendly agriculture participation among existing conventional farms and recognize the entire eco-friendly agricultural district as a single landscape resource to form a village heritage.

Sangju Namjang Village, a nationally important agricultural heritage, possesses traditional Sangju dried persimmon agriculture and holds the history and reputation of dried persimmons.

By inheriting traditional dried persimmon agriculture, it aims to preserve the agricultural environment and biodiversity, enhance the value of agricultural heritage through maintaining agricultural landscapes, and expand experiences and tours of the dried persimmon village to develop it as a tourism resource.

The Eco-friendly Compost Production Facility Modernization project supports the renovation and repair of aging facilities of compost production companies, as well as equipment necessary for compost production such as spreading equipment and maturity meters, to establish a foundation for eco-friendly compost production and induce the production of safe agricultural products through improved compost quality.

Among companies that have supplied livestock manure compost for more than three years, Gyeongju Fertilizer Agricultural Cooperative Corporation was finally selected through a comprehensive evaluation of project necessity, appropriateness of the project plan, capability of the project entity, and adequacy of post-management plans.

Gyeongju Fertilizer will receive 500 million KRW in project funds to install an automatic packaging line, renovate compost production facilities such as pay loaders, and purchase production and management equipment.

Through this, eco-friendly compost made from livestock manure and food waste will be produced to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and produce safe agricultural products with high fertilizer effects.

Kim Jong-su, Director of the Agriculture, Livestock and Distribution Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “Through this project, we expect to improve the rural environment, preserve agricultural natural landscapes, enhance cultural value, and strengthen the agricultural foundation, leading to a leap forward in regional eco-friendly agriculture.”
