Busan Port Authority Launches Advanced Smart Port Logistics Platform Project Integrating Digital Twin and 5G Technologies
Ministry of Science and ICT and Korea Intelligent Information Society Agency Sign Business Agreement
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan Port Authority (BPA) has signed a business agreement with the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency to advance the 'Busan Port Digital Twin Port Logistics Platform.'
The BPA consortium, which includes six institutions and companies such as Korea Maritime and Ocean University and KLNet, is promoting this project through the 'National Infrastructure Intelligent Informatization Project,' which supports pilot demonstrations of ICT new technologies targeting major national infrastructure. A budget of approximately 1 billion KRW, including 760 million KRW from the government and 260 million KRW from the private sector, will be invested over 10 months.
The advancement project initiated by this agreement targets the 'Busan Port Digital Twin Port Logistics Platform,' which was implemented last year using digital twin technology to create 3D modeling of incoming and outgoing ships, port facilities, and hinterland logistics systems in a virtual space.
This platform is the world's first case integrating ships, ports, and hinterland logistics, allowing real-time visual confirmation of logistics sites and data, and improving productivity and efficiency of ports and hinterland logistics through various algorithms.
BPA tested and verified core functions such as linked data collection, field monitoring, and simulation of this platform, resulting in various achievements that enhance port operational efficiency.
By utilizing the ship entry and exit optimization function, ship waiting time was reduced by 35%, and fuel consumption by 27%, respectively. The optimal allocation algorithm for port equipment improved equipment efficiency by 16%.
This year, BPA plans to further refine and sophisticate the digital twin modeling and significantly expand the range of ship location information collection. While strengthening port operation simulation functions linked with terminal operation systems, BPA will also develop and introduce functions to minimize waiting times for external cargo vehicles, thereby enhancing usability and effectiveness.
