One Worker Dead in Suspected Explosion Accident at Hyundai Heavy Industries Subcontractor
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] An accident presumed to be an explosion occurred on the 2nd at Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan Shipyard, seriously injuring a subcontractor worker in his 50s, Mr. A, who was transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away.
At around 7:48 a.m. that day, Mr. A was performing attachment work (a process using gas to cut steel plates) at Panel 2 Factory when an unexplained explosion suddenly occurred, causing an impact to his face and loss of consciousness.
The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident by questioning witnesses. Although other colleagues were present at the scene at the time, no additional injuries have been reported so far.

Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan Shipyard is a workplace with about 30,000 employees including both primary and subcontractors and is subject to the Serious Accident Punishment Act. Hyundai Heavy Industries stated, "A regrettable accident has occurred," and added, "We are currently doing our best to accurately understand the details of the accident and manage the aftermath."
