41 Members Including Woo Hyung-chan and Hong Seong-ryong of the Democratic Party Hold Press Conference on the 28th Requesting Former Leader Song Young-gil to Decide on Seoul Mayoral Candidacy
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 28th, 41 Seoul city council members including Woo Hyung-chan and Hong Seong-ryong (Democratic Party) held a press conference at the Seoul City Council to request former party leader Song Young-gil to run for Seoul mayor in the June 1 local elections.
They stated, "Former leader Song Young-gil has led firmly and significantly as a five-term National Assembly member, Mayor of Incheon, party leader, and presidential election campaign chief," and added, "He is the right person to serve for today's Seoul."
They continued, "The devoted and passionate image of former leader Song Young-gil shown during this presidential election remains strongly in everyone's minds," and emphasized, "We cannot just sit back any longer. We must firmly tie the shoes we briefly took off and run again. We aim to win the local elections two months from now and repay the support of the citizens. For that, a stronger, innovative, and capable candidate is more urgently needed than ever."
Council member Woo Hyung-chan and others said, "The real estate issue has been the most painful matter for Seoul citizens. Former leader Song Young-gil has expert insight into the biggest issue in Seoul, real estate. Since his time as party leader, he has consistently pursued moderate and practical policies such as lowering real estate taxes including capital gains tax and comprehensive real estate tax, and significantly easing mortgage loan ratios in government policies."
They also said, "During this presidential election process, the plans announced by leader Song Young-gil such as ‘Housing for Everyone’, ‘Public Development of Guryong Village’, ‘Supply of Sale-type Basic Housing’, and ‘Development Profit Sharing Plan’ received strong support from many citizens due to their innovative alternatives and meticulous design. These plans are truly a blueprint for Seoul’s real estate measures, designed to benefit vulnerable groups and homeowners alike, and to bring benefits to many citizens. Seoul citizens want a determined candidate who can realize this," and requested, "Former leader Song Young-gil, please make a decision."
They concluded, "We strongly believe that former leader Song Young-gil is the only candidate who truly understands the policies Seoul citizens need and is the right person who can keep promises with strong execution power. The Democratic Party in the Seoul City Council will firmly support him. We sincerely request a swift decision to run for Seoul mayor."
