Longest Accident-Free Flight Air Force Combat Flight Group
[Asia Economy Military Specialist Yang Nak-gyu]The Republic of Korea Air Force's 19th Fighter Wing (hereafter 19th FW) has achieved '210,000 hours of accident-free flight' for the first time.
According to the Air Force on the 28th, the 19th FW is scheduled to receive an award at the Air Force Headquarters main conference room in Gyeryong, Chungnam, presided over by Chief of Staff Park In-ho.
The 19th FW established the record of 210,000 hours of accident-free flight over 15 years and 1 month, from February 14, 2007, to this month’s 18th. This is the longest accident-free flight record among current Air Force fighter wings. In terms of distance, it amounts to 135.5 million kilometers, which is approximately equivalent to 176 round trips between the Earth and the Moon.
The Air Force explained that this record holds special significance as it was achieved while operating the main fighter aircraft, the F-16 and KF-16, maintaining military readiness including tactical measures when neighboring countries entered the Korean Air Defense Identification Zone (KADIZ).
