Excavator Operator by Day, Prostitution Broker by Night... Suspended Sentence in First Trial
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] A 40-year-old excavator operator who was charged with running a prostitution business by employing visa-free foreigners received a suspended sentence in the first trial.
On the 27th, Judge Gong Seongbong of the Criminal Division 6 at the Seoul Western District Court announced that Kim (43), who was charged with violating the Act on the Punishment of Acts of Arranging Sexual Traffic (procuring prostitution) and the Immigration Control Act, was sentenced to 8 months in prison with a 2-year suspension. Along with this, he was ordered to perform 80 hours of community service and fined 4 million won.
Judge Gong pointed out, "He encouraged illegal stay of foreigners and undermined sound sexual customs," and added, "He also posted prostitution advertisements on the internet."
However, Judge Gong explained the sentencing reason by stating, "The defendant confessed and showed remorse, has no prior convictions of the same kind, and has not received criminal punishment exceeding a fine."
From February to May of last year, Kim rented an officetel in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, and began operating a prostitution business by employing women of Kazakhstani nationality. He was charged with posting advertisements on prostitution advertisement sites and receiving fees from numerous unspecified male customers, thereby engaging in acts of procuring prostitution.
