Gyeonggi Province Donates 61.25 Million KRW in Relief Funds for Wildfire Damage in Gangwon and Gyeongbuk
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Public officials from Gyeonggi Provincial Government have raised a total of 61.25 million KRW in donations to support wildfire damage recovery and aid for disaster victims in Gangwon Province and Gyeongsangbuk Province, and have designated the funds to the Gyeonggi Social Welfare Community Chest.
Three labor unions at the provincial government?the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Employees' Labor Union, the National Public Officials Labor Union Gyeonggi Provincial Government Branch, and the Gyeonggi Integrated Public Officials Labor Union?conducted the fundraising campaign among employees from the 14th to the 21st.
Earlier, the wildfire that broke out on the hills of Uljin County, Gyeongsangbuk Province, on the 4th was extinguished on the 13th, nine days after the fire started, marking the longest duration in history at 213 hours.
Although there were no casualties, a total of 643 properties, including 319 houses, were damaged, and 20,923 hectares of forest were affected.
Gyeonggi Province supported the wildfire suppression efforts with 1,007 firefighting personnel, 399 firefighting vehicles, and 25 helicopters.
Oh Byeong-kwon, Acting Governor of Gyeonggi Province, expressed, "I extend my deepest condolences to those who suffered great damage from the wildfire," adding, "I hope that the donations voluntarily collected by Gyeonggi public officials will be of some help, and that the damage will be restored quickly so that people can return to their normal daily lives."
