The Transition Committee Orders the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Focus on 'Expanding Port Infrastructure and Digital Transformation'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The Presidential Transition Committee on the 25th ordered the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to expand domestic port infrastructure and focus on digital transformation in the marine and fisheries sector during its work report.
The Economic Subcommittee 2 of the Transition Committee announced through a press release that this was discussed during the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries work report held at the office in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu on the same day.
The transition committee members requested the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, saying, "Domestic major ports must quickly expand port infrastructure to be competitive as global hubs," and "Please develop a plan to implement a complex port service system including ship repair yards and LNG bunkering."
They also emphasized digital transformation in the marine and fisheries sector, such as autonomous ships, fully automated ports, and digital coastal disaster forecasting and warning systems.
Regarding the risk of disappearance of fishing villages, they demanded the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to create revitalization plans for fisheries and fishing villages from the perspective of balanced national development, including fishing village new vitality promotion projects and reform of the fisheries public direct payment system.
According to the Transition Committee, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries reported on the same day that it aims to establish the world's top-level shipping logistics system by strengthening the competitiveness of national shipping companies. The ministry presented plans to overcome the global logistics crisis through cooperation between national shipping companies and import-export businesses and to create a smart port logistics system.
