On the 24th, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education held an opening ceremony at the Busan Student Safety Experience Center attended by Superintendent Kim Seok-jun, Lee Soon-young, Chairperson of the City Council Education Committee, Noh Ki-tae, Mayor of Gangseo District, parent representatives, and education office officials.
The opening ceremony proceeded in the order of congratulatory performances, promotional video screening, ribbon-cutting ceremony, commemorative tree planting, tour of the experience rooms, and experience activities. The event was broadcast live on the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education's YouTube channel.
The Busan Student Safety Experience Center was constructed with a budget of 28.7 billion KRW, starting in August 2020, on a 16,970㎡ site of the former Myeongji Elementary School playground, with a three-story building and a total floor area of 6,337㎡.
The first floor houses the Children's Safety Experience Room, Water Safety Experience Room, and Orientation Room; the second floor includes the Traffic Safety Experience Room, Large-scale Traffic Safety Experience Room, and Outdoor Safety Experience Room; and the third floor features the Disaster Safety Experience Room, Personal Safety & First Aid Experience Room, and Daily Life Safety Experience Room.
Among comprehensive safety experience centers operated by metropolitan and provincial offices of education nationwide, this is the first to include a Water Safety Experience Room within the facility, enabling systematic water play safety education and survival swimming training.
A Wind and Water Safety Experience Zone reflecting the regional characteristics of the maritime city of Busan was created to provide students with realistic safety experiences.
Considering the regional characteristics of the western Busan area, where the proportion of multicultural students is relatively high, a six-language supported voice guidance system was also installed within the experience center.
During the school term, safety experience education is provided for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students, and survival swimming education is offered to elementary students.
During vacations, safety experience education is provided for families and the general public, and safety experience education job training is conducted for school staff.
To promote the health and welfare of local residents, the swimming pool will be opened for a fee. The gymnasium, parking lot, outdoor plaza rest area, and book caf? will also be opened free of charge.
The experience center will operate on a pilot basis until April following the opening ceremony. During the pilot operation, teaching and learning guides will be developed by school level and grade, and full-scale operation is planned to begin in May.
