The Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 2 (Judge Park Jeong-hong) announced on the 25th that it sentenced Mr. A, a man in his 60s who was tried for violating the Road Traffic Act, to eight months in prison.
The court stated the reason for sentencing, saying, "Severe punishment is inevitable," but "considered that the blood alcohol concentration was not very high and the driving distance was not long."
Mr. A was indicted for driving about 50 meters on a road in Eonyang-eup, Ulju-gun, Ulsan, last June at night with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.093%.
According to the investigation, Mr. A had a history of being punished seven times, including suspended prison sentences, for drunk driving or driving without a license, yet committed the same offense again.
