The Big Four Accounting Firms to Hold Online 'ESG Voluntary Disclosure' Audit Committee Forum Next Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Ji Yeon-jin] The Audit Committee Forum, a non-profit organization, announced on the 22nd that it will hold the '2022 1st Regular Forum' as an online webinar on the 19th of next month for auditors and audit committee members of listed companies.
The Audit Committee Forum was established in 2018 by the four major domestic accounting firms (Samil, Samjung, Anjin, and Hanyoung) to enhance the expertise of auditors and audit committee members for corporate accounting transparency. The first regular forum this year will discuss the theme of 'ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) Disclosure and Audit Committee Oversight Points.'
As ESG has emerged as a key issue in corporate management, voluntary ESG disclosures are becoming more active, and from 2025 onwards, the disclosure of 'Sustainability Management Reports' will be gradually mandated for KOSPI-listed companies of a certain scale. The 'Corporate Governance Report' has been mandatory for KOSPI-listed companies with assets exceeding 2 trillion won since 2019, and from 2026, all KOSPI-listed companies will be required to disclose it.
At the forum, Seo Jeong-woo, the preparatory chairman of the Korea Sustainability Standards Board (KSSB), will present the KSSB disclosure standards, including the direction for establishing domestic ESG standards. Hwang Jeong-hwan, Managing Director of Samjung KPMG, will give a lecture on 'Audit (Committee) Oversight of ESG Disclosures.'
