Gyeonggi-do to Provide 93.3 Billion KRW Support for Low-Emission Measures on Old Diesel Vehicles and Construction Equipment This Year
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will invest 93.3 billion KRW this year to implement low-emission measures for 32,365 vehicles, including old diesel vehicles classified as emission grade 5 and construction machinery.
The main projects include ▲early scrapping of 19,418 old diesel vehicles ▲installation of emission reduction devices on 9,566 vehicles ▲installation of simultaneous particulate matter and nitrogen oxide reduction devices (PM-NOx) on 95 vehicles ▲conversion of 10 vehicles to LPG engines ▲engine replacement for 1,252 old construction machines ▲installation of reduction devices on 295 old construction machines ▲support for purchasing new LPG cargo vehicles for 1,727 vehicles after scrapping old diesel vehicles ▲installation of 2 closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) for enforcement of driving restrictions on old vehicles.
Owners of emission grade 5 diesel vehicles or old construction machinery who wish to receive support for low-emission measures can apply through the vehicle emission grade system website (emissiongrade.mecar.or.kr).
For detailed information such as subsidy support when purchasing new vehicles, applicants can contact the environmental department of the city or county where the vehicle is registered, the Gyeonggi Province call center (031-120), or the Korea Automobile Environment Association (early scrapping 1577-7121, emission reduction device installation 1544-0907) for guidance.
Additionally, the province has decided not to impose fines on vehicles that were caught violating the driving restrictions during the 3rd seasonal fine dust management period and are unable to install reduction devices, if they belong to small business owners, basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income households, or are registered outside the metropolitan area, provided they complete low-emission measures by September 30.
However, fines will be imposed during the 4th seasonal fine dust management period starting in December.
