Attorney Jo Young-sun Appointed as the 15th President of Minbyun
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] The Lawyers for a Democratic Society (Minbyun) announced on the 21st that attorney Cho Young-sun (56, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 31) of Donghwa Law Firm has been elected as the 15th president.
In this presidential election, in which attorney Cho was the sole candidate, 624 members participated, accounting for 56.67% of the 1,101 eligible voters. The term of office for the elected president will begin on May 28 and last for two years.
Attorney Cho has served as the head of the legal support team for the Hope Bus at Hanjin Heavy Industries, leader of the task force (TF) to block the national textbook, and lawyer for the late Baek Nam-gi. He has also held positions as deputy secretary and secretary-general at Minbyun, and has been active as secretary-general of the National Human Rights Commission and as a member of the Human Rights Committee of the Korean Bar Association.

In this election, two new auditors for Minbyun were elected: attorney Kim Jun-hyun (class 37) from Woori Law Firm and attorney Yeo Yeon-sim (class 36) from Jihyang Law Firm.
