North Korea on Australia and Japan's Military Buildup: "Threat to Regional Peace and Stability"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] North Korea criticized the military buildup moves by Australia and Japan, allies of the United States, saying they "threaten regional peace and stability."
On the 21st, the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement under the name of Ri Dong-chol, a member of the Chosun-Asia Association, mentioned Australia's plan to build a new nuclear-powered submarine base, pointing out that it "openly reveals their reckless obsession with the nuclear arms race, regardless of international condemnation."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "What is even more unacceptable is that the United States and the United Kingdom are using the media to link Australia's dangerous military moves to the Ukraine crisis, portraying them as part of military strengthening," and claimed, "This is an attempt to cover up their nuclear proliferation activities and to deflect international criticism of Australia's military buildup efforts."
It further pointed out that Australia's plan is "a military buildup openly carried out under the protection of the United States and the United Kingdom," adding that it is a "reckless act that threatens regional peace and stability."
The Ministry also criticized Japan's commissioning of the latest submarine, the Daigei, in an article titled "What Does the Newly Commissioned Daigei Show?" written by researcher Ra Guk-cheol of a Japanese research institute, analyzing that Japan intends to "regain the status of the defeated former Japanese Empire and realize its ambitions for re-invasion by possessing preemptive strike capabilities."
