[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] A technical advisory body has been launched to safely construct the Third Yeonryuk Bridge, the third sea bridge connecting Yeongjongdo Island, where Incheon Airport is located, to the mainland.
On the 18th, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority held an inauguration ceremony for the technical advisory group at G Tower in Songdo International City, attended by Director Lee Won-jae and related experts, aiming to achieve the opening of the Third Yeonryuk Bridge by 2025 and ensure safe construction.
The advisory group consists of a total of 10 members, including academic experts and technical professionals in civil engineering structures, roads, airports, soil, foundations, construction, and safety. They plan to regularly inspect quality and safety through on-site checks at each construction stage until the opening of the Third Yeonryuk Bridge.
Director Lee said, "We expect the technical advisory group to provide significant assistance regarding technology and safety issues during the construction of the Third Yeonryuk Bridge," and added, "Please conduct thorough inspections to prevent any blind spots in work, especially during the early implementation of the Serious Accident Punishment Act."
The construction project for the Third Yeonryuk Bridge has been progressing smoothly since the main construction of Sections 1 and 2 began in December last year.
The Third Yeonryuk Bridge, connecting Yeongjongdo Island and Cheongna International City, will be 4.7 km long with six lanes for two-way traffic, and is scheduled for completion in December 2025.
Among the three bridges connecting Yeongjongdo, including the existing Yeongjong Bridge and Incheon Bridge, this is the only one to include pedestrian walkways and bicycle paths. The main tower of the bridge will feature the world's tallest bridge observatory at a height of 180 meters.
The total project cost is 650 billion KRW. Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) will bear 521.2 billion KRW (80.2%), Incheon Urban Corporation 98.2 billion KRW (15.1%), Incheon International Airport Corporation 14.9 billion KRW (2.3%), Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority 13.1 billion KRW (2%), and Hansang Dream Island 2.5 billion KRW (0.4%).
