The Iksan Police Station in Jeonbuk announced on the 18th that they had applied for an arrest warrant for a man in his 30s, identified as A, on charges of special assault.
A is suspected of roaming around Yeongdeung-dong, Iksan City, from January last year to early this month, shooting BB guns at the arms and legs of passersby. It is known that most of the victims were women.
Police who responded to reports of "someone shooting BB guns on the street" identified the suspect through closed-circuit television (CCTV) and other means, and apprehended A earlier this month.
Investigations revealed that A hid in specific places such as inside a car and shot BB guns at passersby when they walked by.
The weapon used by A was not a pistol type but a rifle about 40 to 50 cm long, and it was reported that the barrel (the long part through which the bullet passes) was long, making it quite powerful.
During the police investigation, A reportedly stated that the reason for mainly shooting women with the BB gun was "because women’s reactions were bigger than men’s." He also admitted to the crime, saying, "I was hit by a BB gun before, so I shot out of revenge."
