Letter to Firefighters Nationwide Regarding Wildfire Response in Gyeongbuk and Gangwon
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Lee Heung-gyo, Commissioner of the National Fire Agency, expressed his gratitude to the nationwide firefighters who responded to the wildfires along the East Coast and extended condolences to the families and colleagues of the fallen personnel.
On the 18th, Commissioner Lee, in a letter sent to fire departments nationwide, stated, "Through operations based on detailed strategies and analysis, we successfully defended key national facilities such as the Hanul Nuclear Power Plant and the Samcheok LNG Terminal, while protecting valuable natural heritage and cultural assets like the Geumgang Pine forest and Bulyoungsa Temple." He added, "By proactively deploying specialized wildfire suppression vehicles to the right places, we minimized damage and achieved the outcome of no casualties."
He continued, "Minister Jeon Hae-cheol of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety conveyed a strong commitment to enhance wildfire response capabilities by introducing additional large helicopters and high-performance chemical fire trucks to prepare for major disasters," emphasizing, "We will do our best to devise measures to strengthen firefighting wildfire response capabilities."
He also encouraged the firefighters who devoted themselves during the wildfire response. Commissioner Lee said, "They worked tirelessly on the front lines with unyielding fighting spirit and strong mental resilience," and mentioned, "As firefighters, pride and warm camaraderie surged powerfully."
Regarding the death of one employee from the Chungnam Fire Headquarters, he expressed, "I am deeply saddened," and said, "I pray for the deceased’s soul and offer my condolences to the bereaved families and colleagues."
Meanwhile, he also expressed gratitude to the volunteer firefighters who participated in the wildfire suppression efforts.

Commissioner Lee said, "I thank the volunteer firefighters who willingly put aside their livelihoods to participate in suppression and relief activities, fulfilling their duties as members of the firefighting family," and added, "I hope the disaster victims who suffered damage to their homes and facilities due to the simultaneous fires nationwide will return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
