Jeong Yong-yeon Appointed Director of Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital: "Creating a Hospital Where Both Patients and Staff Are Happy"

Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital announced that Jeong Yong-yeon was inaugurated as the 10th hospital director on the 16th.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Jeong Seong-taek, President of Chonnam National University; Ahn Young-geun, Director of Chonnam National University Hospital; Park Yong-hyun, Standing Auditor; Kang Hyung-geun, the first director of Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital and management committee members; National Assembly member Shin Jeong-hoon; Gu Chung-gon, Mayor of Hwasun County; and Moon Haeng-ju, member of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly.
The event was conducted with strict COVID-19 measures, minimizing external guests and holding the ceremony simultaneously online and offline.
At the inauguration, Director Jeong presented operational directions including ▲ patient-centered hospital ▲ hospital where employees are happy ▲ world-class research-oriented hospital leading medical research ▲ introduction of ESG (Environmental, Social Responsibility, Transparency) management policies.
First, to realize the core value of a patient-centered hospital, he pledged to prioritize patient safety above all and improve the aging hospital environment. He emphasized activating multidisciplinary medical care and introducing cutting-edge medical equipment to provide world-class medical services.
For a hospital where employees are happy, he promised appropriate staffing and welfare. This belief stems from the idea that happy employees will be kind to patients, which will be the cornerstone of realizing a patient-centered hospital.
He also did not forget to promise to become a world-class research-oriented hospital leading medical research. Through the construction of the planned ‘Open Medical Innovation Center’ in two years, they plan to establish a medical research industrialization center and further activate translational research.
In particular, as a core institution of the Hwasun Biomedical Cluster, he emphasized doing their best for the development of the national bio-medical industry and conquering cancer. The key projects include the medical big data industry and the establishment of an innovative AI-based clinical support platform.
Director Jeong stated, “Our country faces risks everywhere, such as unprecedented population decline due to low birth rates, aging, rapid climate change, and unpredictable pandemic infectious diseases like COVID-19,” and added, “To overcome these and achieve sustainable hospital development, we will introduce ESG management policies.”
Director Jeong encouraged the staff, saying, “These tasks cannot be done alone. Let us move forward together with autonomy and responsibility rather than interference and orders, with communication and harmony, to become the ‘world’s best hospital.’”

Meanwhile, Director Jeong was born in Hampyeong, graduated from Gwangju Daedong High School and Chonnam National University College of Medicine, and earned a Ph.D. in medicine from Chonnam National University Graduate School. Since joining Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital at its opening in 2004, he has served as head of the special examination laboratory, director of radiology, director of the clinical trial center, head of planning, and director of the biomedical research institute.
