[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Agricultural Science Education Center of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Gyeongsang National University has been designated as the first "Level 2 Healing Agriculture Specialist Training Institution" by the Rural Development Administration in Gyeongnam.
In 2021, the "Act on Research, Development, and Promotion of Healing Agriculture" was enacted with the purpose of revitalizing healing agriculture using agricultural and rural resources to contribute to the improvement of public health and quality of life, as well as sustainable growth of agriculture and rural areas.
To realize this, the Rural Development Administration manages the qualifications of healing agriculture specialists who perform professional tasks such as developing and implementing healing agriculture programs, and designates institutions to train these specialists.
The Agricultural Science Education Center at Gyeongsang National University has established a training system for healing agriculture specialists aimed at nurturing creative and empathetic talents leading regional healing agriculture.
The training system prepared by Gyeongsang National University includes ▲ promoting public health using agricultural resources ▲ developing new opportunities and income sources for rural areas ▲ establishing cooperative service systems with healthcare and educational institutions ▲ expanding healing agriculture targets and building customized programs.
The curriculum consists of subjects such as Introduction to Healing Agriculture, Diagnosis of Healing Agriculture Service Recipients, Management of Healing Agriculture Resources, Management of Healing Agriculture Facility Environment, Planning and Development of Healing Agriculture Programs, and Implementation of Healing Agriculture Services, which qualify students to take the 2022 Healing Agriculture Specialist certification exam.
This year, Gyeongsang National University plans to provide 142 hours (over 10 weeks) of education to 40 people who are working in or interested in healing agriculture-related fields. Specific recruitment and education schedules will be announced soon.
Kim Cheol-hwan, Director of the Agricultural Science Education Center, said, "Healing agriculture can be considered a social contribution of agriculture that reduces social costs such as disease prevention and recovery, and medical welfare expenses," adding, "We will invigorate the agricultural life industry by training healing agriculture specialists."
