Gwangju Seo-gu Launches Facility Management Corporation... Providing Public Services
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The Seo-gu Facilities Management Corporation of Gwangju Metropolitan City (Chairman Im Nak-pyeong) held its launching ceremony at the Seo-gu Living Environment Center on the 14th.
According to Seo-gu on the 15th, the launching ceremony was held in a simplified manner with a significantly reduced scale, considering the sharp increase in COVID-19 cases, with attendance from local district lawmakers, city and district council members, heads of organizations, and corporation executives and employees.
Established in October last year under the Local Public Enterprises Act and having officially started operations on January 3 of this year, the Seo-gu Facilities Management Corporation is composed of 175 members across two departments?the Management Communication Team and the Environment and Transportation Team?led by the chairman.
It is also entrusted with the collection and transportation of household and large waste, operation of recycling sorting centers, and management and operation of 28 public parking lots and 256 covered bus stops.
Including the National Sports Center and the Cultural Center, which are scheduled to open or be completed this year, the corporation will gradually take over the management of public facilities such as public parking lots within traditional markets, banner posting stands, and sports facilities.
Previously, Seo-gu operated governance in March 2020 to seek optimal operation plans for household waste for the establishment of the corporation, held feasibility reviews and public hearings in March last year, enacted related ordinances in June, and completed the registration of the corporation's establishment in October.
Chairman Im Nak-pyeong of the Seo-gu Facilities Management Corporation stated in his inaugural speech, “We will do our best not only in systematic and efficient facility management and organizational operation but also in forming a mutually beneficial partnership with labor unions to provide high-quality public services to citizens.”
A Seo-gu official said, “With the launch of the Facilities Management Corporation, we expect that the quality of public services will be further improved through systematic and professional management and responsible governance of public facilities, as well as employment stability for workers.”
