"Fish Restaurant Entering Convenience Stores! CU Launches Fresh Sashimi Pickup Service"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] CU, the number one convenience store chain, announced on the 15th that it is partnering with the seafood distribution platform In-eo Gyoju Haejeokdan to launch a fresh seafood sashimi pickup service.
In-eo Gyoju Haejeokdan is a seafood-specialized O2O application that connects seafood markets with consumers. It provides daily seafood price information from over 500 sashimi restaurants nationwide and offers same-day sashimi delivery services. The app has an average monthly user base of 1.5 million.
The fresh sashimi pickup service introduced by CU allows customers to order sashimi before 12 PM and pick it up at a nearby convenience store after 5 PM on the same day. This enables customers to conveniently purchase fresh sashimi at reasonable prices without having to visit the seafood market in person.
To use the service, customers select convenience store pickup when purchasing products at CU-affiliated stores within the In-eo Gyoju Haejeokdan app and place their desired orders. To receive the product, customers present the order number receipt message to the store staff.
The service currently connects with sashimi restaurants in Noryangjin Seafood Market and Garak Market, allowing orders for various products sold at these stores. The number of affiliated sashimi restaurants available for ordering is expected to increase continuously.
Since freshness is paramount, products are packaged in special boxes with cooling packs and stored in specially designed insulated bags until customer pickup. Products not collected by 10 PM on the same day are automatically retrieved the next day.
CU plans to start the fresh sashimi pickup service at about 20 stores located in Gangnam-gu and Seocho-gu, areas with high sashimi delivery demand, and gradually expand the service coverage.
An event commemorating the service launch will also be held. The first 1,000 customers using the fresh sashimi pickup service will receive a CU mobile gift certificate worth 3,000 KRW.
