Germany to Purchase Up to 35 US-Made Stealth Fighter Jets F-35
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Germany has decided to purchase up to 35 American-made stealth fighter jets, the F-35. Germany is returning to a rearmament policy following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
On the 14th (local time), dpa news agency, citing government sources, reported that the German government has decided to buy up to 35 units of the American Lockheed Martin stealth fighter F-35 as a successor model to replace the German Air Force's Tornado fighter jets, which have been in service for over 40 years.
The F-35, the latest model among fighter jets worldwide, is difficult to detect by enemy radar due to its special shape and external coating materials.
dpa reported that the scale of Germany's purchase will be up to 35 units. The Tornado fighter jets that Germany has possessed so far have mainly been used for electronic air warfare to disrupt, suppress, and neutralize enemy air defenses.
To fulfill these tasks, Germany plans to purchase 15 Eurofighter jets from Airbus, according to dpa.
