The Won-Dollar Exchange Rate Surpasses 1240 Won Intraday... Highest in 1 Year and 10 Months
The won-dollar exchange rate surpassed 1,240 won during trading on the 14th.
In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate rose to 1,241.2 won at noon, breaking the six-day high set on the 8th (1,238.7 won). In the afternoon, the exchange rate remained around 1,240 won per dollar.
This is the first time since May 29, 2020 (high of 1,240.2 won) that the won-dollar exchange rate exceeded 1,240 won during trading. It is also the highest level in about 1 year and 10 months since it rose to 1,242.5 won on May 28, 2020.
The prolonged war between Russia and Ukraine appears to have increased preference for safe-haven assets such as the dollar, influencing the rise in the exchange rate. The dollar index, which indicates the value of the dollar, is moving around the 99.1 level.
