Gwangju Nambu Fire Station Urges Cooperation in Securing Fire Truck Exclusive Zones in Apartment Complexes
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] On the 14th, the Nam-gu Fire Station of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that it actively urges participation in securing exclusive fire truck zones within apartment complexes for rapid rescue and firefighting activities in case of fires in multi-family housing.
According to statistics from the Nam-gu Fire Station over the past five years (2017-2021), there were 104 fire incidents in multi-family housing in Nam-gu, resulting in 4 casualties and property damage amounting to 294 million KRW. These accounted for 20.8% of all fires and 28.6% of casualties, indicating a significant risk of human injury.
The "exclusive fire truck zone" requires multi-family housing (apartments with 100 or more households and dormitories of three or more floors) to mandatorily install at least one exclusive fire truck zone either at the front or rear of each building to ensure smooth fire truck access.
Since the amendment of the Fire Services Act on August 10, 2018, illegal parking or stopping in exclusive fire truck zones is subject to a fine of up to 1 million KRW.
Violations related to parking in exclusive zones include ▲ stacking objects or parking in the exclusive zone ▲ blocking access ▲ erasing or damaging the exclusive zone road markings ▲ and other actions that obstruct fire trucks from parking or entering the exclusive zone.
