[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) announced the final selection of 49 projects for the '2022 Excellent Program Production Support' aimed at strengthening the content competitiveness of local and small-to-medium broadcasters on the 14th. The total support fund amounts to 3.6 billion KRW.
This year, the budget for producing local and small-to-medium broadcasting programs was increased by 500 million KRW. A new category for current affairs and news programs providing local news and community-focused information was established, while support for new types of content such as Over-The-Top (OTT) services, Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR) was expanded.
Programs aimed at minimizing disaster damage and raising awareness of the climate crisis, as well as those supporting local cultural heritage preservation and customized urban regeneration for local commercial district coexistence, will also be supported.
In addition to program production support, the KCC will assist in activating the distribution of produced local broadcasting content by supporting participation in overseas content exhibitions and the remaking of content for overseas export.
Through tailored education for local broadcasting personnel and expert consulting to respond to changes in the broadcasting environment, a support system will be established to enhance the competitiveness of local broadcasting content in production, distribution, and education.
