Kim Du-kwan: "Yoon Ho-jung Should Resign and an Emergency Committee Must Be Appointed for Certain Victory in Local Elections"
Yoon Hojung Resignation, Lee Jaemyung Elected Emergency Committee Chairman Signature Campaign
3,193 of 19,151 Signatories Are Prospective Candidates
Calls for Yoon's Resignation as Emergency Committee Chairman Persist Within the Democratic Party
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 14th, Kim Du-gwan, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, said regarding Yoon Ho-jung, the floor leader, taking the position of emergency response committee chairman, "Representative Yoon should immediately resign as the emergency response committee chairman and elect a new chairman to appoint new emergency response committee members for party innovation and victory in the local elections."
On the same day, Representative Kim posted on his social media (SNS) a message titled "3,158 local election candidates want Lee Jae-myung as the emergency response committee chairman," expressing this view. Opposing the Yoon Ho-jung emergency committee system, Representative Kim started a signature campaign from the 12th to promote Lee as the emergency response committee chairman.
Representative Kim stated, "As a result of the two-day signature campaign 'Yoon Ho-jung resign, Lee Jae-myung emergency response committee chairman promotion,' out of a total of 19,151 signatories, 3,193 are prospective candidates. The signatures will continue, and the voices of prospective candidates will grow louder." He urged Yoon to resign, saying, "The fact that they participated in the signature campaign despite the possible disadvantage in nominations means it is impossible to hold local elections under the Yoon Ho-jung emergency committee."
He continued, "I hope Advisor Lee Jae-myung will reconsider leading the local elections as the emergency response committee chairman. Based on his achievements as mayor of Seongnam and governor of Gyeonggi Province, and his strong performance in the presidential election, he symbolizes reform from the grassroots and local autonomy." He emphasized, "Advisor Lee himself said, 'Grab the tail to shake the body.' It is time to realize the intention to change the country through local autonomy."
He added, "I cannot help but suspect that the party leadership appointing Yoon, who bears great responsibility for the presidential election defeat, as the emergency response committee chairman and recommending members affiliated with specific factions is an attempt to avoid personnel purges and reform." He criticized, "Floor leader Yoon has no qualification to serve as emergency response committee chairman solely for allowing malicious and continuous defamation of our party’s presidential candidate and even supporting candidate Yoon Seok-yeol on the party members’ bulletin board."
Within the Democratic Party, voices of opposition are emerging, calling for Yoon to take responsibility for the presidential election defeat and step down. Representative Lee Soo-jin (Dongjak-eul) pointed out on her SNS, "We should not entrust the emergency response committee to floor leader Yoon Ho-jung, one of those responsible for the presidential election defeat, after just one day of consideration. This is tantamount to giving up on the local elections in advance."

Representative Jung Chun-sook also criticized on SNS, "There was a members’ meeting last Friday, and most of the members who spoke said the Yoon Ho-jung emergency committee is unacceptable." She added, "It is extremely unreasonable for a co-chairman of the joint presidential campaign, who must share responsibility for the presidential election defeat, to serve as the emergency response committee chairman."
