Opinions to Be Collected with Cooperation from 17 City and Provincial Governments Nationwide
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol has decided to establish a Regional Balanced Development Task Force (TF) under the Presidential Transition Committee.
Kim Eun-hye, the spokesperson for the president-elect, held a briefing on the 12th at the People Power Party central office in Yeouido, Seoul, stating, "President-elect Yoon made the decision to establish the TF after receiving suggestions during phone calls with metropolitan government heads from our party, emphasizing the need for a serious approach and solutions for national balanced development."
She continued, "As soon as cooperation is secured from the 17 city and provincial governments nationwide, we will dispatch representatives to gather opinions on balanced development and reflect them in the new government," adding, "The president-elect intends to carefully listen to and collect the voices of local residents scattered across the country without neglecting any, to contribute to national balanced development."
In response to reporters' questions about what issues the TF will discuss, Spokesperson Kim said, "It is a TF to discuss regional balanced development," and added, "During the election process, issues such as real estate, jobs, and education showed that excessive centralization caused considerable inconvenience to people outside the Seoul metropolitan area."
She further stated, "The initiative will be implemented under the principle that the nation is not a specific region but can pursue development and the future through balanced development."
