[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The government has expressed a positive stance on the United States' additional sanctions against North Korea.
On the 12th, the government stated regarding the U.S. sanctions on Russian individuals and companies related to North Korea's new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) development and launch activities, "Based on close cooperation between South Korea and the U.S., we will maintain a strong ROK-U.S. defense posture and thoroughly implement the UN Security Council sanctions resolutions."
An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "We evaluate that the U.S. measures reflect the existing U.S. position that implementing sanctions against North Korea is essential alongside dialogue to achieve complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula," and added, "We will continue efforts to resolve the North Korean issue through diplomacy and dialogue."
He also added, "We once again urge North Korea to halt actions that go against peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the region and to promptly respond to the international community's proposals for dialogue."
