[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 11th, the Blue House responded to a national petition requesting the ban on military consolation letters at girls' high schools by stating, "We will actively reflect social changes and the resulting shifts in perception in educational activities."
In its response to the national petition titled 'Ban on Military Consolation Letters at Girls' High Schools,' the Blue House stated, "Through this issue, we have reaffirmed that institutional operations, which have been carried out conventionally without reflecting changes, still remain and require continuous review."
Previously, about 210,000 citizens agreed to the petition requesting a ban on making girls' high school students write military consolation letters.
The Blue House said, "The government and education authorities will work together with education offices at all levels to ensure that school educational activities actively reflect social changes and the resulting shifts in perception, and are operated based on students' voluntary participation and practice."
In this regard, Superintendent of Education Cho Hee-yeon also responded, "It makes us reconsider points that were not considered in existing classes, such as ways to encourage student participation, demands for changes in peace and unification education activities that align with the times, and educational activities reflecting persistent gender role prejudices."
